HL BaSE hosted a transformative HL BaSE Catalyst workshop in New York, bringing together legal professionals and social entrepreneurs for an afternoon of purpose-driven collaboration. HL BaSE Catalyst connects Hogan Lovells lawyers and in-house counsel with social enterprises tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The New York workshop continued this mission, offering bespoke legal and business advice to a diverse group of changemakers, featuring ventures addressing a wide spectrum of issues, from climate resilience and the delivery of humanitarian aid, to equitable access to education and healthcare.

Thank YOU all so much. I am so incredibly appreciative of the time and advice given during the event. I wasn't 100% sure what to expect going in, but I am now armed with so much more information to help us move forward in our business model evolution, which will help our organization become more sustainable and will catalyze a growing sector of mappers in LMICs. As a nonprofit, these sorts of initiatives can make all the difference to us, as we have such limited resources, and I am now emboldened to take action. We are incredibly grateful.

Liz Chamberlain, Deputy Executive Director, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap

The sheer scope of innovation and commitment on display was both humbling and inspiring:

  • The Urban Pinnacle is on a mission to empower underserved communities through its Points of Purpose (PoP) app, which enables users to engage in programs and initiatives that support their journey toward self-sustainability. The platform tracks progress, rewards engagement, and connects individuals to tangible opportunities for growth;
  • Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team is an international non-profit dedicated to improving lives through accurate and accessible geographic data. We are a global community of mappers and humanitarian & development organizations who believe in the power of open data to drive positive change. We work together to provide map data that revolutionizes disaster management, reduces risks, and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Inkludo is a newly formed nonprofit that works to facilitate impact financing to social enterprises in key sectors, including renewable energy, healthcare, and agriculture across the global south;
  • APOPO works to protect the people and planet with innovative solutions, using trained rats and other scent-detection animals to speed up landmine and tuberculosis detection, and will soon be deploying trained rats for anti-wildlife trafficking purposes in ports in Tanzania, as well as to find survivors in collapsed buildings in partnership with a major Turkish organization;
  • Hip Hop Public Health was jointly developed by a neurologist and hip hop artist to construct a revolutionary approach to health education. It creates research-based educational resources by harnessing the power of music and culture to improve health in disadvantaged communities.

The BaSE workshop created a thoughtful and supportive environment at just the right time. As we gear up to launch the PoP app, having a space to gain clarity, refine ideas, and learn from others doing impactful work was both timely and deeply appreciated”,
