Last week we held our first Catalyst workshop of the year in our London office, welcoming 8 inspiring social entrepreneurs who are making a real difference in their communities and beyond.

"To attempt to create an innovative, challenger approach to purchasing a first home as a startup social enterprise is evidently ambitious and full of very real challenges. We have the energy and team to take this on but it is no exaggeration to say that without the HL BaSE team and their exceptional expertise and legal precision we would not be able to progress or scale this project in a meaningful or impactful manner. Owning a home should be a right not a privilege, HL BaSE have contributed massively towards us achieving this fundamental goal."

JP Anderson, Chairman, Profit Free Homes

The workshop brought together a dynamic group of volunteers from Hogan Lovells, alongside in-house counsel from our valued clients, including PayPal and IBM. Together, they advised on a range of critical legal issues, including IP strategy and brand protection, corporate structuring, data protection, key legal considerations when working with partners, and so much more. The collaborative environment fostered open discussion and practical problem-solving, ensuring each venture received actionable advice to help them navigate their legal challenges and scale their impact.

We were delighted to work with 8 incredible ventures, including:

  • IDEMS collaborates with innovative expert researchers and local communities around the world to develop digital interventions and infrastructure.
  • Trees for Cities is a charity on a mission to improve lives by planting trees in streets, neighbourhoods, parks and schools across the UK.
  • Beacon Services is a Community Interest Company which provides therapeutic support and resources for families, focusing on building strong parent-child relationships to improve children’s mental health.
  • Arab Women Wellbeing Network (AWWN) is a digital platform designed to empower Arab women in the UK and Europe through AI-powered personalisation, culturally relevant content, and access to trusted wellbeing, legal, and career support.
  • Profit Free Homes is a Community Interest Company established to make home ownership more accessible to first-time buyers who are excluded from the traditional mortgage market by offering a member driven approach to purchasing affordable housing.
  • Sahara Quli is a social entrepreneur looking to set up Bank-Able, a digital talent bank of people living with disabilities ready to engage in employment.
  • Ukrainian Medical Charity is a charity dedicated to supporting Ukraine's healthcare sector. It works to provide essential medical supplies to hospitals and medical teams on the frontline in Ukraine.
  • Men's Minds Matter is a Community Interest Company working to change how society understands, prevents, and responds to suicide in men. Led by clinical expertise and lived experience, it is on a mission to save lives.

"This was an amazing event for our organisation. Really helped us to focus in on where we are going and the best steps to take to help us achieve this. Some very knowledgeable and highly skilled people that we would never get to talk to without the generosity of Hogan Lovells and those contributing their time."
